Intellehealth – to take ‘the trouble out of check-ups’

Yesterday’s Irish Times reported on Joe Dalton’s ‘Intellehealth’ monitoring system for chronic health conditions (reported here on TANN Ireland earlier this month). The article explains how the system will work; from home health monitoring device (e.g. BP monitor) to ‘set top box’ to central ‘depository’ which can be accessed by doctors. The initial focus will be on providing diabetes monitoring, with services for other conditions to follow.

We are told that Dalton is currently in talks with ‘a major multinational’ to build his service around their devices. ‘Philips’ springs to mind, as the photo used is of a Philips set-top box – hmm! But also because the system is similar to the Philips Motiva telehealth platform, at least in so far as both systems use a home television and broadband internet connection.

The article features an interview with Dalton who explains that some day each home may have its own healthcare set-top box, offering services such as health monitoring and education via a healthcare television channel. You can read the full article here.
